Hi there!
Welcome back to The Curio! Hope you’ve had a great week.
If you’re new here, then dive in and let me know what you think. It would be marvelous if you subscribe and get the free newsletter stuffed with interesting stuff every Wednesday.
This week has been full of lots of little activities that, on the face of it, are mundane but have ended up being quite cool. For example, I had to visit a local town called Fleurance to go to the dentist. Well, both Fleurance and Lectoure, a neighbouring town we called in at on the way back, were beautiful.
Lectoure had a dramatic and beautiful cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais de Lectoure) which has been on the site since the 12th century. It also had a magnificent abundance of food-related shops, including a chocolatier, boulangerie, butchers, and a salon de thé.
Like greedy gooses, we bought a couple of croque monsieur and a chocolate mousse tart for when we got back home. It reminded me of when my grandmother used to take me to a dentist appointment as a child and then treated me to a sugary donut and an orange juice at the café round the corner afterward. 😂
I also had cause to wander around Nérac and grabbed a few interesting photos on my walk.
Things I’ve been loving
This week in writing
Head over to Medium to check out my latest article. It was super enjoyable to write.
It explores the idea of doing things by the book and how it sometimes hampers creativity.
In conclusion, it’s good to break the rules.
Lego Lost At Sea
In 1997 a cargo ship lost its, well, cargo. Among the items that went overboard were 5 million bits of Lego.
The Lego Lost At Sea Facebook page charts the beach finds of this interesting project.
If you’re in Cornwall, you may well find some when beach combing.
Suzannah Lipscomb’s book nook
This pic over on Instagram says it all really. 🤩
The Great British Bake Off
The Bake Off is back. I wrote this thread on Twitter/X before the episode started. Little did I know the raspberry situation would be somewhat addressed. 🍰🧁
